Approximately 85% of MIT undergraduates participate in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. <a href=\"\/undergraduate\/current-students\/research-opportunities\/\">Learn More<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"cta-btn\" href=\"\/faculty-and-research\/areas-of-research\/\" rel=\"&quot;noopener\">Explore Research Areas<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Career Development<\/h2>\n<p>Biology is an excellent entry point for many professions. These resources offer guidance whether you\u2019re looking for your first internship experience or thinking about life after MIT. <a href=\"\/undergraduate\/current-students\/career-development\/\">Learn More<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Student Organizations and Resources<\/h2>\n<p>Our community extends far beyond the classroom and lab:<\/p>\n<p>The <b>Biology Undergraduate Student Association (BUSA)<\/b> sponsors an annual lecture by a prominent biologist; a variety of student-faculty gatherings; community-service activities; a tutoring program for MIT Biology core courses; and seminars focusing on biomedical ethics and career development.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/biorefs.mit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>BioREFS (Resource for Easing Friction and Stress)<\/b><\/a> provide MIT\u2019s Biology community with an independent resource to support, encourage, diffuse, and mediate during times of stress.<\/p>\n<p>The <b>Biology Undergraduate (BUG) lounge <\/b>provides a place for students to hang out, plan seminars and social events, and swap advice and experiences.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"cta-btn\" href=\"mailto:bexec@mit.edu\" rel=\"&quot;noopener\">Contact BUSA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"http:\/\/biotech.mit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b> MIT Biotech Group<\/b><\/a> serves as an avenue for undergraduates to gain exposure and networking opportunities within the biotechnology industry.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MITmicrobiomeclub\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b> MIT Microbiome Club<\/b><\/a> brings together students, researchers, clinicians, and members of the public currently working on or interested in the field of human microbiome studies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; We value our collaborative nature and encourage you to feel like full partners in the work of the department, taking on leading roles in shaping undergraduate life.
