In Biology, we believe ongoing education is important to our future success. The department currently provides two micro-credential courses that give community members the opportunity to further their DEI education.

In order to provide ongoing education around DEI subjects, DEI officer Hallie Dowling-Huppert and Instructor Dr. Darcy Gordon, Instructor of Online and Blended Learning in Biology, in collaboration with department leadership have created and run micro-credential courses on a variety of topics. To meet the needs of the Biology Department in training current and future faculty in inclusive and equitable pedagogy, Dr. Gordon and Hallie Dowling-Huppert (departmental DEIO), collaborated on adapting the online course into a blended learning experience. In this modality, participants engage in both in-person group activities as well as individual written reflections and assessments online. This blended workshop series gathers graduate student, postdoc, and faculty participants together over several hours (typically 2 two-hour sessions), where they explore how identity influences educational experiences, practice reflective teaching, critically assess different teaching practices, and develop an action plan to implement in their own teaching contexts.

After completion of the workshop series and online assignments, participants can earn a Micro-Credential in Inclusive Teaching,.
